Cooper and Associates Accountants
At Cooper & Associates Accountants we use HandiSoft accounting software and majority of my work requires frequent use HandiTax and HandiLedger. Our work also requires us to create spreadsheets for the various needs of clients using Microsoft Excel. Other programs which I use frequently include MYOB and QuickBooks as well as the online Xero accounting software.
• Preparation of income tax returns from client records into MS Excel templates then inputting the data into HandiTax to finalise the clients’ income tax return.

• Preparing BAS reports of the clients’ income and expenditure to the ATO.

• Work preparing GPFR and SPFRs for clients starting from creating an opening balance journal entry and further journal entries for adjustments as needed.

• PAYG tax variations for clients that expect large income tax returns to reduce their PAYG tax during the income year.

• Archiving of files (scanning files and saving them down to client records).

• Working with a team on client work – this often involved reviewing client work I had finalised with my supervisor as well as working with other staff members on client work simultaneously.

• Working independently to complete set work before set deadlines such as due dates for income tax returns, FBT year-end requirements and BAS due dates.

• Preparing spreadsheets using functions to create a user-friendly template for clients as well as for internal use by other staff members.

• Work-balance to complete my studies while still being a productive member of the firm – during busy periods this involved ensuring my client work was completed in a timely manner while still allowing time to study by delegating my time to where it was most productive.

Farmhand (2006 – 2014)
Bendigo
• Working independently with minimal supervision on general farm work and maintenance

• Using problem solving skills to infer information and anticipate problems that may occur – for instance, I was required to fix a fence that was located several kilometres away and needed to take all the tools I thought that I would need as to avoid making multiple trips back and forth. Knowing what you need and what you may need became a crucial part of my work and a time skill.

• Quickly learning new skills in order to be able to work independently

• Working with machinery of all sizes – most commonly I would be required to drive a frontend loader to stack hay onto work trucks of into haystacks, as well as, driving the trucks.
