SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

I worked at Jet Stores since high school as a Casual Supervisor. After I graduated I worked as a Floor manager for 6 months. My family and I then moved to Portugal to run the family business. I missed South Africa and because of Compulsory military commitments, I moved back after 6 months.

After my year’s military service, I was offered a position at Jet Stores as an Operations development Trainee (which was supposed to be a year program). After 5 months I was promoted to Sales Manager Randburg, Southgate then Store manager of Lichtenburg. After 2 years, Markham approached me with a good salary and because the Foschini group was a good company to work for, I accepted.

I was head hunted by Mr Price for Store Manager in Lichtenburg. After 11 months I was promoted to Store Manager Mr Price Rustenburg (one of top 10 stores at that time). I also opened 2nd Mr Price Rustenburg. After 1 year 10 months, I was promoted to Area Manager of a new division (Mr Price Home). I had 17 stores (outlying) – most of which were opened by myself. I also opened 3 stores in Botswana. I was then promoted to the East Rand Area. After 3 years 3 months, my grandfather in Portugal fell very ill and I was called upon to assist the family with the business. I resigned and left to start a new life in Portugal. I was struggling to get citizenship and because my grandfather got better, I went back to SA and joined Ackermans as store manager/ trainee Area Manager.

After 8 months I joined Truworths . I started as Admin Manager for Eastgate but after only 2 weeks, was appointed as Store Manager for Fourways (A grid store). After 8 months I was promoted to Area Manager East Rand then North West Province. After 2 1/2 years, my grandfather passed away. I moved back to Portugal to assist with family business -my Portuguese papers finally came through.

The retail opportunities were not great and the situation with my grandfather’s business had been sorted out. I then went back to SA to Mr Price and accepted an area manager position. After 2 years Mr Price was about to go through major restructuring and I decided to pursue other opportunities.
