The facility comprised of a methanol plant, an air separation facility and an associated pipeline transport and receiving terminal for gas from the Heidrun offshore oil and gas field developed by Conoco and producing 240000 b.p.d. Working directly with operating company Statoil with overall contractual responsibility for a multi-disciplined workforce comprising civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation, piping and mechanical during the construction, procurement and design phase whilst liaising with Kvaerner management to adopt forward planning methods to ensure budgets were met and work was carried out to the optimum timescale in a safe and quality manner.
For the methanol process the use of three column distillation was used with the erection of the atmospheric column weighing in excess of 500 Mt and with a length of 80m. The Off-site units included Intermediate Tank Farm and Product Storage, Cooling Water System, Cryogenic Air Separation, Inert Gas System, Instrument and Plant Air Supply, Flare System, Fire Fighting System, Start-up Boiler, Water Treatment and Power Generator
Responsibilities
• Managerial responsibility for a multi-disciplined workforce involved in the construction of the Njord Semi Submersible Production Vessel at Stord Island fabrication yard. A contract that lasted 43 weeks and expended almost 170,000 man-hours on field installation and welding of piping systems.
