Started as Contract Assistant, promoted to QS Assistant, but still do both.
Assist Project Engineer with:
* Accommodation & Messing (For Project Managers, Conferences, Site Staff – and once had to arrange accommodation in Middelburg for 200 coming from Durban)
* Site travel expenses
* Buying and ordering of (Equipment, Materials – Conductors, structures, electrical equipment, civil works, and general items)
* Control and ordering of PPE issues (Personal Protective Equipment)
* In charge of all Plant & Yard for this project (renting trucks, Compressors, Excavators, Merlo’s, Bombardiers, Vehicles, Drill Rigs, Tractors, etc,
checking cost report against site reports getting quotations, doing orders – 58 vehicles on site)
* Solely responsible for the Crane rentals and contracts – I was also assigned the task to sort out a huge query that was on the border of being a lawsuit I had to work out the financial status, hours worked, equipment used, etc, and then sat in the meeting with the Financial Manger, MD and the Representing MD of the company involved. It was based on my work that the resolution was found and the lawsuit prevented.
* Reports (Such as working out volumes of concrete that was ordered and what is suppose to have been used according to the foundation drawings
* Doing various types of recons (Sub Contractors Recon, Rebar Recons)
* Keeping the progress chart up to date (daily reports and monthly reports)
* Doing templating of Attachment heights for towers.
* Monitoring and tracking drawings that has been received, and issuing official drawing numbers – Full Document Control (which has to correspond with Eskom at all times)
* This Document Control is also used for all documentation relevant to the Project, such as Health and Safety, Method Statements, Tower Drawings, Foundation Drawings, Etc
I also had to create a new document control for the new R450 Mil project.
* Leasing with Eskom, Site supervisors, etc.
* Sorting out of queries such as accounts, orders, Incorrect billing,
* Checking and approving invoices before payment
* Creating programs scatter grams, graphs, etc for project.
* Tendering (with Local and International companies) in this I had to use Eskom’s list of desired steel weights and obtain n quotation not only from KEC (Int.) but from African Cellular Towers (Local) for comparison reasons. Therefore I needed to get a quotation for Marine transport as well as Transport from POE (Port of Entry) to Middelburg. After that I had to make a presentable Bill of Quantities for the Project Manager to present to Eskom.
* Assisting with Claims (Obtaining information on Man-hours worked, equipment used, accessibility, Weather, ect, doing the calculations on a Excel form that I created andt hen making it presentable for Eskom.
* I work on 2 projects (1 in Vryheid worth R450 Mil, 1 in Middelburg worth R250
Mil and 2 smaller once in Etwatwa – R10 Mil)
* Programs I have created include (Document Control, Quality Document Control, PPE Control Document, Plant and Yard Cost Comparison and control, Compensation Event Schedule, Property Rental Control, Internal Incident Report, Drawing Register, Line Profile, Lots of Query Documents and Recons, Templates (Materials List,
Requisition forms, SHE report, etc), Daily/Weekly/Monthly wall chart, Matrix for Health and Safety, etc)
* Went to site to Supervise and re-instate a system not maintained.
