Maintenance:
• Problem solving on all Industrial IT and plant equipment.
• Weekly and after hours standby on the SASOL Synfuels plants.
• Involved in Root Cause Analysis investigations and Potential Deviation Analysis for the sake of plant integrity, incident investigations for SHERQ, including reports to customer on completion of any activity.
• Responsible for FAT, SAT and DDS documentation.
• Use of, and developing procedures and documentation to respond to emergency breakdowns. Constant review of documents as a result of changing plant conditions.
• Upgrade and maintenance of SASOL LCN (Local Control Network).
• Upgrade and Maintenance of SAPREF LCN and its related equipment. Adding new equipment as per supplier’s manuals and documentation.
• Support and engineering functions at SAPREF (Shell and BP) and ENGEN site Durban. Generating weekly reports (sitreps) for customer, to provide information on failures, as well as next steps to take in order to prevent and protect from process failure/trips/emergency shutdown.

Projects
• IIT Refresh Project, SASOL Secunda – This entailed replacing US stations with GUS stations, installing hardware and setting up WindowsXP and TPS software, upgrade of APP Nodes to Windows 2003 and new TPS release, upgrading of LCNs (to R681.1, 23 LCNs in total), installing FTE. Investigation into temperature variations in control room, leading to cabinet design for air flow to ensure equipment is within vendor’s specifications to provide for optimal performance.
• HM Upgrades – Upgraded History Modules to SBHM at SAPREF Site(BP and Shell Refinery), Durban-KZN. This includes backup and restore of all process history, plant information data and system configuration files.
• PM and APM to HPM Upgrade – This entailed joining 2 UCNs, modifying schematics, modifying points to suit HPM and new network number, changes to AM CL(Control Language) programs, converting to HPM CL, replacing old hardware. Writing new CL programs for process alarm management, creating Logic Blocks for same function.(SAPREF Site)
• ENGEN Refinery, Durban, SAFOR Upgrade – Building of points and modifying schematics. Use of EB(Execution Build) files to import current data, modify for ease of use, and re-build to new system.
• Experion On-Process Migration – Worked with an Experion engineer on this project, to upgrade the Experion Control System to its latest release. This was done with the Plant on-line. Also included pre-migration checks, confirmation from TAC(Technical Assistance Centre) and change over from Windows XP to Windows 7, use of Experion/Acronis Backup and Restore software to reduce operator’s minimized access to process view. Island View Site, Durban.
• Network and Domain upgrade at SAPREF Site. Replacing of Cisco switches, network cabling and addition of new switches and cabling to provide redundancy to the process network. Planning and supervising Electrical Contractors for running of power to new cabinets.
• Assisted with AAM(Advanced Alarm Management) installation at SAPREF Site. Installation of new servers and software to provide an ‘offline’ database for engineers to use in process alarm reduction, reporting and trending for future process development.
