Working as a Drill Rig Mechanic in Ghana West Africa on Sandvik 900 / 200 drill rigs during exploration drilling for gold core samples.

During this time I was fully responsible for all servicing and planned maintenance of 5 drill rigs in the Bonde region of Ghana including ordering of all parts and arranging of the local workforce.

During this this time I lived in the Keagan Mining Camp at Bonde bush camp .

Duties included full overhaul of caterpillar diesel engines /air compressors/ hydraulic components / and transmissions and final drives also full servicing and maintenance to drill components.

Returned to the UK at the end of contract.

I was working at Portsmouth Naval Docks fitting large marine diesel engines and gas turbines to the Royal Navy’s new build aircraft carriers and type 45 destroyers. Duties include the fitting out of entire engine rooms , pump rooms , hydraulic systems and all essential mechanical machinery required onboard such ships, including various machining of parts undertaking when required in the BAE machine shops, including welding and pipe fitting.

Organizes onsite 24/24 operation of the Diesel Power Plant, which is placed under his responsibility by the supervision of the Diesel Power Plant operators in charge of the daily maintenance and operation. These operators are in charge of control of all manual functions performed in engine room and for auxiliary equipment inside the engine room and in auxiliary enclosures, they must handle and provide routine maintenance of equipment and monitor power plant parameters with local readings. Main equipment concerned was: 2 MAN diesel/crude oil Engines driving ABB Generators and associated auxiliaries. Capacity of the Power Plant on Marbruk Field +2 x 8.6 MW. Mechanical maintenance for 10 stand alone diesel generators operating on field, in addition to the Power Plant (mainly Perkins and Cat diesel Generators around 400KVA capacity each. For the MAN engines in the Power Plant and associated auxiliaries (pumps, separators, cooling systems) the main preventative maintenance and overhauls to perform typical PM 150h/3000h/6000h and 12000h maintenance. Maintains a permanent anticipation on the potential problems that could occur in the production plant, in close relationship with other sections, in order to prevent non-productive or non efficient operations.
