Career Summary

Position: Executive Officer
Sept .2011 –Present

TOV “TransBudІnzhinіring”, Ukraine (http://tbi.lviv.ua/)

2014:By the middle of 2014, when plans of railway industry in Ukraine were revised, the company was on the verge of extinction due to a sharp reduction of a funding volume. We had to reduce the number of our staff in order to save our key specialists. The number of our projects in July of 2014 was equal to zero. I have developed and implemented a set of measures for the company orientation to other segments of construction market and to other customers. This enabled to us by the end of 2014 carried out eight different projects. Three of them, were projects of a full cycle, what includes site investigation, topographical and geotechnical surveys, design, construction and engineering services at all stages.

2011-2013: Among the largest design projects which were developed under my leadership in this years, are the following:

1) Technical and economic assessment of a subgrade reconstruction at Kyiv – Fastiv line (the third international transport corridor).

2) The construction of a second tracks at Kyiv – Donetsk line (Poltava – Hrebinka section).

3) Restoration of railway drainage facilities in the direction of the fifth international transport corridor (line L’viv – Chop, sections Svalyava – Chynadiyevo – Kolchino – Mukachevo – Strabichovo – Barkasovo – Batiovo – Esen).

Among the largest projects of a full cycle with budgetary responsibility up to $1,2 m which were executed by me as project manager are:

1) The construction of shore protection facilities at railway line Chop-L’viv (2013).

2) The construction of shore protection facilities at railway line L’viv – Uzhorod (2012 -2013).

This and other activity allowed the company became one of the industry leaders of L’viv region in 2012.

Private Entrepreneur Vadym Kovalevych, Ukraine

Civil and geotechnical engineering:

Founded and managed a team of high qualified specialists, who performed topographical surveying, geotechnical investigation, design of complex projects for slopes stability, drainages, shore protection, culverts, etc. Exercised field supervision during construction works.

During this period twenty different projects were developed and executed, with the applying of gabion structures, corrugated metal culverts, geogrids and other geosynthetics.

Position: Head of Geotechnical Department
Mar.2000 – Sep.2011

L’viv State Railway, Ukraine

Basic activities and responsibilities:

Administered and planned activities of Geotechnical Department staff. Coordinated geological, GPR and topographical surveys. Designed by my own and controlled the design process of priority measures with the using of geosynthetics for subgrade strengthening and reconstruction of drainages, retaining walls, etc.

Supervised and was directly involved in preparation of annual technical reports about the state of railway roadbed, checked technical reports based on results of geological and GPR survey. Supervised and organized site inspections of potential hazardous sites of railroad subgrade. Controlled and assessed works quality with soils on railroad construction sites.

2010: Headed by me and with my direct participation, a team of engineers, designed a various kinds of concrete units for application on railway sites, exposed to water erosion. Later these proposals and ideas were used as one of key elements for rules of Ukrzaliznytsia concerning construction of shore protection facilities.

2009: We became one of the first Geotechnical departments’ at Ukrzaliznytsia who began to apply GPR during geotechnical research of unstable railroad subgrade, that provided significant decreasing of a time needed for execution of such works, especially on landslide sites. By my own initiative I studied the basic principles of GPR (ground penetrating radar) work, the order of data processing and interpretation, obtained during site investigation.

2008: Participated in the development of measures for rehabilitation of railway infrastructure, after the disastrous floods in Transcarpathian and L’viv regions.

2007: With my participation in Geotechnical department was established the group to survey technical conditions of tracks at stations of the railway. One of the major objectives of this group was drawing up of tracks technical passports at stations. The establishing of this group made possible to improve the existing system of geodetic monitoring of the state at unstable subgrade sites and allowed timely response and to prevent the emergence and development of deformations.
