ACADEMIC PROJECT
Title: DMAIC Tools Applied on Bail Tight Project
Duration: Final year Project
Description: The project focused on selecting Initial Tool for Component Search. The response is of attribute type and assembly of brake pedal was creating the problem. Involved in identifying whether the assembly process or sub-assemblies are creating the problem. The suspected source of variation in tightening of bail is:
– Assembly process of brake pedal LH and RH creating the problem
– Bail is creating the problem
– Brake pedal LH creating the problem
– Brake pedal RH creating the problem
Key Learning’s: Swapped the pedals and bails of Good Assembly and Bad Assembly in 1st Suspected Source of variation. Concluded that RH Pedal was creating the problem. Thus in RH Pedal the suspected source of variation were bush and sleeve position, bush and sleeve perpendicularity. Checked the perpendicularity from CMM Machine and successfully concluded that in bad assembly sleeve perpendicularity was creating the problem.
– In Improve phase, concluded that VMC machine was creating the problem. After few days of inspection the problem was with fixture of the VMC Machine.
– In Control phase, tabulated the rejection level in next three months the defects percentage reduced from 80% to 5%
