TULLOW KENYA B.V. – Oil and Gas Industry
Procurement Operations Lead
July 2014 to Present
Responsible for Tullow Kenya’s Indirects Procurement; managing and leading the Indirects Procurement team to ensure sourcing is conducted in compliance to predescribed rules and procedures whilst delivering value and operations efficiency.
Key Accomplishments:
• Procurement Planning: Maintained the procurement plan for the C&P team to create visibility of annual procurement /tender requirements. This involved following up with respective contract advisors, to track progress and obtain an understanding of anticipated spend.
• Tracking and maintaining savings for the entire contracts & procurements team; identification of savings initiatives and projects specifically within the Indirects Procurement team, for which I am directly responsible for. In 2014 savings of 36M USD for the Q3/Q4 for the entire contracts & procurements (C&P) team was realized.
• Supplier Development: Identification, on boarding and facilitation of training of local Kenya and local Turkana suppliers to Tullow standards and in fulfillment of the business’ commitment to increase local content in the procurement portfolio.
• Together with the project team, successfully implemented SAP in the Kenya business unit and continued monitoring for process stabilisation. Supporting the procure to pay process in the new system giving guidance to requisitioners on the procurement process.
• Compliance: Monitoring and implementing NO PO NO PAY to ensure compliance to procurement policy and best practice across the business. This has resulted into more awareness of the procurement process and increased conformance.
• In 2014 in conjunction with finance department, reduced late supplier payments by greater than 70% in value, with a target to achieve 90% prompt payment for 2015.
• People management: Skill gap identification with a view of acquiring required training for the team members as well as continued performance feedback and agreed work plans to enhance team’s development.
AFRICA TOWERS SERVICES LTD – Telecoms Industry

Managed the transition and set up of the Tower Companies in 16 out of the 17 Operating Companies (OPCOs) of Airtel in Africa, at the same time, managed the passive vendors and contracts across the 16 OPCOs. This included contract review, supplier relationship management, management of the procure to pay process as well as team leadership both locally across the OPCOs. This was done by management and leadership of both local and regional teams.
Key Accomplishments:
• Successfully managed the transition of 6 OPCOs from the Airtel companies to the respective Tower companies; this included the assignment and transfer of contracts, PO operations, vendor details, inventory amongst other key activities
Guided on negotiations of new contracts for Passive maintenance realizing a minimum savings of 20% in the respective OPCOs
Team management and leadership both locally and across the other African teams
Reduction of delayed payments to suppliers by so far 20% with a plan to have 70% reduction by end of year 2014
UNILEVER KENYA LTD – FMCG
Procurement Operations Manager -Indirects, East and Southern Africa (ESA)

I managed the ESA Indirect procure to pay process ensuring procurement operations were conducted in compliance to policy, were within budgets providing economic, effective and efficient supply of quality marketing materials and services to the entire ESA region. I communicated with suppliers looking for strategic partnering opportunities for the business as well as conducting performance review based on agreed SLAs and in consideration of business requirements. I led a regional team, identifying their skill gaps and facilitating for necessary training to bridge the same to ensure excellent service delivery to both internal and external customers. I regularly engaged with the ESA LT updating on key issues and any upcoming procurement projects. I also managed the subcontracted transactional sourcing provided by IBM. Further responsibilities included driving business savings both by VIP projects and activity business buying; advisory role to internal customers on when, where and how (volumes) to buy in order to realize best value. I also drove Unilever’s Sustainable Living plan ensuring partnership with suppliers with sustainable practices and on boarding suppliers on to the USQS program

I was responsible for quality control and assurance which involved planning and conducting production facility reviews and checks to ensure compliance to Unilever Global standards and best practice. I also monitored and maintained supplier KPIs to ensure satisfactory completion of customer orders. My role also included customer service and public relations where I engaged in constant communication with customers to ascertain levels of satisfaction as well as quick resolution of queries and any arising customer complaints. I was also responsible for contract management to achieve monthly sales targets, to ensure completion of customer contracts On Time and In Full (OTIF) whilst also providing to the business monthly and annual sales forecasts to be used as a guideline to generation of periodic budgets.
Key Accomplishments:
UTEA being part of the Unilever’s global supply chain, I worked hand in hand with factory teams to ensure customer orders, both local and overseas, were filled on Time. Following continuous monitoring and coordination between respective functions, I was able to realize progressive improvement on the Case Fill On Time (CCFOT) and customer satisfaction levels.
Developed KPIs for third party service logistic providers and measuring them against the same to guarantee customer service excellence.
Continuous supply chain improvements by identifying CCFOT limiting losses and addressing them correctly. Resulting from the loss tree analysis, a significant improvement in the customer service levels and supply chain deliveries was achieved.
Realised a sustainable and consistent step change in product quality, increasing UTEA’s competitive edge in the trade as well as increasing raw material availability for Lipton tea blend.

I was responsible for compliance and facilitation for tea tasting protocol as per Unilever global tea standards. I managed tea tasting and analysis to provide final product availability to the various Unilever overseas clients. I led a team of 11 saleroom staff, identifying skill gaps and facilitating for training to ensure they carry out their weekly tasks of timely batch preparation as per required Unilever standards as well as management and resolution of customer complaints regarding tea quality.
