The University of Manchester Manchester, United Kingdom
Master: Mechanical Engineering Design
Excepted result: 2:1
First semester result: Mechanical Engineering Design I (65%), Research Method (68%), Structural integrity (58%)
Design and development of a passive robotic arm for haptic analysis of amputation residua, collaboration with Prosfit Ltd, developing a passive robotic arm that allows accurate positional data to be recorded, designing a system to measure the mechanical characteristics of amputation residua building up a 3D model utilising LabVIEW software, a flexiforce sensor and potentially ultrasound probe, achieving a recent excellent result in the concept design.
Achieved a first class grade (71%) for the Palm Tree Climbing Device, in charge the 3D drawing (CATIA) & 2D drawing (AUTOCAD), also the finite element analysis (ABAQUS) and animation (Keyshot), improved the reliability and safety compared with the original design.
Developed skills in the Matlab coursework, inputting the data of Candle Holder into Matlab, realised the 3D drawing.
Utilised both primary and secondary research sources in the Steam Drum Design, in charge the 3D & 2D drawing and material selection, excellent PowerPoint presentation with animation (PPT), ensuring the Steam Drum can perform consistently in the operating environment (40°C ~ -15°C).
Promoted the skills in the ABAQUS coursework, conducting the force analysis on the bicycle crank recommending modifications following prototype test result, compared different influence of weight on the safety, showing the gap between the theoretical and real value, achieved 69% in final.
Improving the Proving Oven, redesigning it to make sure the oven can be collapsible, considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constrains. Buying the final material on online shop (RS Component) and manufacturing it with the help of tutor and other engineering discipline, especially the 3D printing.
