Fully allocated to the Coal Tar Filtration and Clean Fuels Core projects in Sasol Secunda . I was performing Lead Engineer duties as well as Mechanical Engineer functions by co-ordinating the team responsibilities in the petro-chemical environment. To ensure that the correct mechanical equipment is procured on behalf of Sasol Technology by ensuring correct technical specifications are adhered to. This involves bid clarifications, liaising with vendors, attending project progress meetings, drawing up technical clarification documents to ensure that the correct technology is chosen. To guarantee that there is a proper interface between all engineering disciplines and all the package engineers are properly aligned towards the end design. I also was involved in the design of various equipment like agitators, shaftless screw conveyors, flare packages, pressurised filter systems, cranes, silencers, air-cooled heat exchangers, extraction package with blowers, oil skimmers, HVAC system, nitrogen package, off-loading arms, in-line static mixers, de-superheaters and double pipe heat exchangers, pressure vessels and tanks using various codes and specifications such as ASME and understanding of API codes as well as ISO 9001systems. The software that I have experience in is Autocad, Compress for Vessels, Microsoft Office. I also have a basic understanding of piping stress systems.

My current responsibilities are to provide maintenance support to the building of Sasol’s new Coal Tar Filtration (CTF) Plant. This includes writing up maintenance philosophies, assisting in technology selection based on maintenance experience, representing Mechanical Maintenance at various meetings including but not limited to; weekly progress meetings, Hazop’s and P&ID/MFD/MCFD Reviews as well as interfacing between the project team and Reliability Engineering.
I was in charge of the Reliability Model for the CTF plant and hence have to ensure that the simulated model gives a good representation to the new plant being built by ensuring a sound, technically accurate model.
I also currently do plant maintenance work and act as the Section Leader from time to time. This involves managing a team to ensure that the mechanical failures on the plant are corrected.
I also have extensive project management experience in terms of the Sasol Business Development and Implementation model. I also use the PMBOK principles. I have a few of my own projects that I am working on which include the Painting and Lagging project, Pump Replacement projects and the Valve replacement project among others. I also interfaced closely with the Piping Engineering Contractors with regard to piping design and installation. There was also interfacing with the business analysts as business cases were needed to be drawn up for various projects.

The Sasol environment represents a multitude of tasks and a very brief account is underlined here.
Production work included gaining an understanding of the tagging process as well as the functions of the process equipment.
Work at the Sasol Inspection department involved, understanding the legal aspects and understanding of the various inspection techniques. Pressure testing was performed as well as risk based inspections.
Piping design work was done using Caesar modelling software. The candidate was involved in the construction and commissioning of piping projects.
The candidate gained exposure to pressure vessel design using CodeCalc and Compress software. Involvement was from concept phase to implementation phase. Mechanical design verifications were done on various equipments.
The candidate was involved as a Project Leader on plant shutdowns. This involved managing various projects. It involved planning and execution of the project as well as interfacing with contractors and involvement in the commissioning and de-commissioning activities of the plant.
Maintenance work included, witnessing of commissioning of equipment, involvement with plant planning and central planning and revision of maintenance strategies.
Metallurgical work, including failure analysis, was done on a regular basis to find out the root causes of failure regarding various equipments on the plant.
Reliability experience included understanding operating reliability, maintenance systems, maintenances metrics, non-conformance management and integration Management.
Finite element analysis exposure included understanding FEA and CFD analyses, understanding of the basic interpretation of CFD and FEA results and assisting vibration monitoring department.
Project experience concerned various small projects and involved compiling Gantt charts, gaining exposure to contract, cost, quality and scope management as well as assisting with project planning and execution.
