Hertel (Bahrain) Co-ordinator (Insulation, Scaffolding, Painting and PFP)

 I am 1 of 4 co-ordinators employed by Hertel to manage the Turn Around on the Pearl LNG Plant in Qatar. I am responsible for certain areas of the plant and control all Insulation, Scaffolding, Painting and PFP activities taking place in these areas. I am also deeply involved with the quality control aspects of the work carried out by a mainly Asian workforce.

Rainhams Industrial Servicies Insulation Supervisor

 I was responsible for a team of TIES on the new build power station at Ferrybridge. I allocate work, implement quality control procedures, monitor health and safety and deal with scaffolding coordination. I also liaise with clients representatives and attend daily meetings to discuss progress and potential problems which may surface at a later date on the project.

Stork Technical Services CUI Insulation Supervisor

 At the moment I am based offshore in the North Sea as a CUI (corrosion under insulation) Supervisor. My duties are varied and include carrying out surveys to determine the extent the of CUI and estimating material requirements along with reinstatement hours for the insulation. I also supervise the workforce (painters, scaffolders and insulators taking care of work permits and hse requirements and inspect all work carried out as well as writing and submitting daily progress reports.

Cape Engineering Cryogenic Insulation Supervisor

 I am employed by Cape Engineering on an LNG plant in Arzew Algeria. My main function is to manage a team of over 600 Insulators mainly from Algeria but incorporating up to 250 Indonesian and 150 Malaysian Cryogenic Insulation specialists. I have been brought in to oversee that good working practices are being adhered to and completed within the parameters laid down in the specification and within budget.

RBG Ltd Offshore Insulation Surveyor

 I was engaged by RBG Ltd to carry out insulation surveys on various offshore installations to determine the scope of work involved and advise on the various and most suitable specification available. I also advise on estimated man hours to complete the scope of work as well as any possible issues regarding access and health & safety.

Maersk FPSO:Singapore Oil Tanker Conversion Project: Insulation Specialist (6 months)

 Maersk FPSO were engaged by Statoil to convert an oil tanker (Peregrino) into an FPSO however a sub-standard vendor installation resulted in significant concerns being raised by the client. Recruited to oversee all insulation activities. Assessed existing insulation; engaged with Project Manager; re-wrote Insulation Procedure Specification against compressed timescales (4 days); acted as client interface for all insulation issues; and led remedial & ongoing insulation work. Played a key role in rescuing this failing project, resulting in individual praise from Statoil.

Kellogg Brown & Root: EBIC Ammonia Plant Project: Insulation Superintendent (16 months)

 KBR were engaged by a consortium of Egyptian companies (EBIC) to manage the design & construction of a $700m ammonia plant in Egypt. Hired to rescue this failing project & oversee all insulation activities. Assessed technical spec; identified major problems with two 48,000 ton ammonia storage tanks; chaired meetings with KBR; revised spec; oversaw installation team; and re-installed PUR foam in line with manufacturer’s guidelines. Led remedial work to make storage tanks fully operational & negotiated extended warranty from manufacturer & contractor.

Kellogg Brown & Root: Ammonia Plant – Wall Breach: Insulation Superintendent (3 months)

 During construction of the EBIC ammonia plant in Egypt, KBR suffered a wall breach which damaged 1100m of loading pipelines (2 ply foam glass & vapour barrier with iron cladding). Personally led remedial action to mitigate losses. Assessed damage; designed revised solution due to unavailability of original materials (rigid PUF foam with mastic vapour barrier & aluminium cladding); presented solution to KBR; and worked 17hrs p/day to deliver project against compressed timeframes. Delivered this critical project in just 3 weeks, saving $210k.

Kellogg Brown & Root: Contractor Remedial Work: Insulation Superintendent (2 months)

 Subsequent to fire damage on insulation & painting work within KBR’s EBIC ammonia plant project, personally discovered that the main contractor had used non specified materials which caused the fire to spread. Inspected damage; presented technical report to KBR; investigated claims from contractor that non specified materials were authorised (subsequently disproved claims); and discussed remedial work with contractor. Played a key role in all negotiations which resulted in the contractor performing $100k of remedial work at their own cost.

Kellogg Brown & Root: Contractor Remedial Work: Insulation Superintendent (3 months)

 As Insulation Superintendent for KBR’s EBIC ammonia plant project, discovered that the main contractor had used non specified materials leading to non secure acoustic insulation on vertical pipe locks. Inspected work; arranged for manufacturer (Armacel) to assess compliance with their guidelines; presented technical report to KBR & contractor; and created business case for contractor to cover all remedial work. Played a key role in all negotiations which resulted in the contractor performing $120k of remedial work at their own cost.

Kellogg Brown & Root: Refractory Insulation Solution: Insulation Superintendent (1 months)

 KBR discovered major cracks in refractory insulation due to boiler vibration & commissioned a complete replacement of the insulation work. As Insulation Superintendent, recommended an alternative to prevent 2 weeks of plant closure at a cost of $3.5m. Assessed technical requirements; designed solution using Inconel anchors; discussed solution with boiler manufacturer; presented technical business case to KBR; and subsequent to approval, led the installation. Delivered the new insulation within 48 hours which saved the client $2.5m.

Invergordon Hospital: New Wing – Pipework Insulation: Insulation Contractor (6 months)

 Invergordon Hospital were building a new hospital wing. Engaged as sub contractor to design & install all pipework insulation for hot & cold water & supply ducts. Liaised with client; assessed architectural plans / specification; designed complex insulation solution; procured materials; assembled & managed team of 20 Insulation Engineers & Fabricators; personally fabricated & installed sheet metal; attended site progress meetings; and managed all site logistics. Delivered this major project on time, to budget & to specification.

Chevron / BIS Salamis: Offshore Maintenance: Thermal Insulation Engineer (6 months)

 Chevron discovered major corrosion on vessels & pipework at their Orkney oil terminal. Engaged through BIS Salamis to lead large-scale insulating work. Performed detailed survey / audit of vessels & pipework; designed & presented solution to client; sourced materials; assembled & led specialist team; acted as Permit Holder for work permits; and oversaw all cleaning, painting, blasting & re-insulation to CUI standards using foam glass & Ulva shield materials. Delivered this critical project on time, to budget & to specification.

Abu Dhabi Oil & Gas / Cape East: Plant Extension: Insulation Superintendent (12 months)

 Abu Dhabi Oil & Gas were building a new train (plant extension) for liquid nitrogen gas in the Das Field offshore Abu Dhabi. Engaged through Cape East to lead a third of this major project (1 of 3 Insulation Superintendents). Analysed plant specification; designed solution; assembled team of 1000 workers; oversaw H&S; procured materials; conducted QA audits; and oversaw all insulation work including cryogenic insulation. Delivered this critical project on time, to budget & to specification resulting in various additional contracts for this client?
