Profile

I am a highly motivated and positive individual who has a strong ability to solve problems. I am technical within my industry sector, roofing & renewable energy, but also have a good knowledge in other areas within the construction industry. I take pride in my work and believe I will be a valued employee to any employer, as I am an excellent team player but can equally work on own initiative and have a strong ability to make decisions.

I have had a lot of experience in organising and managing projects from start to finish within residential (social and private), commercial and personal developments, which a lot of positive feedback has been received due to my quality of work. I take a flexible approach to given tasks, and always driven to learn new skills and knowledge.

As it states in my employment history, I was involved in a serious road traffic accident in 2012 which resulted in me not been able to work. During the long road to recovery I applied myself to further education, with the outcome resulting in gaining a HNC Construction degree. I have now recovered to full health and currently in full time employment as a Contracts Manager in the social housing refurbishment sector.

Employment History

Aug 14 – Current
(Contracts Manager)

Working as a Contracts Manager in the social housing refurbishment sector, I am heavily involved with managing multiple projects ranging from £200,000 up to £30,000,000 at any one time. Typical day to day duties are: carrying out pre-construction surveys and plans, delegating in-house staff and multiple sub-contractors, quality checking workmanship, liaising with clients and all others involved, arranging/delivering meetings, disciplinarians and dismissals, adapting plans to solve unforeseen issues, etc.

The projects which I mainly manage are on housing estates and involve: Re-roofs, roof-lines, solar PV, external clean and re-paints, internal refits, re-pointing and ground works.

May 2012 – Aug 14

In May 2012 I was involved in a road traffic accident resulting in injuries. During the road to recovery, I took advantage of my inability to work and enrolled onto a HNC Construction course. This is now completed to a distinction mark. I also used this time to renew my CSCS card, SMSTS, working at heights, asbestos awareness, fire warden and first aid at work certificates.

September 2010 – May 2012
Gateway contractors Ltd – Project Manager (self-employed)

Working as a Project Manager, my main duties involved carrying out surveys, planning and managing installations of solar PV projects around the UK. The solar PV installations ranged from 2kW to 50kW on domestic, new build and commercial buildings with different roofing coverings. On-site I would oversee the works, ensuring that H&S was been adhered too, adequate welfare facilities were in-place, keeping daily records, site inductions, checking and accepting deliveries, liaising with the clients and others involved, etc. Also, I offered support to the sales team by working closely with the Sales Director to ensure the correct product knowledge was available to the sales team as well as accurate up-to-date information and advice was given to the customers.

On new build projects, I worked alongside the site management and all others involved to ensure that the installations could be delivered on time without it affecting other works on-site.

September 2009 – June 2010
Eco Environments – Head of Roofing/Solar PV installations (self-employed)

Working on domestic, commercial and new build projects throughout the UK, I was reasonable for all the roofing works and the installation of solar PV panels. Ensuring projects were completed in the designated timescale to the highest of standards, surveying, maintaining and implementing health & safety in my area, dealing with the customers/general public and completing all paperwork accurately. I was also given the opportunity to be trained and be involved in the installation of Proven (kingspan) Wind Turbines.

As the head of the roofing department, I was always the first point of contact if advice was needed. My knowledge and experience ensured that the customers would be given all the correct information by talking them through how their project would be carried out. Assessing future projects and communicating back to the management on health and safety and other relevant issues was also a main task I carried out.

September 2009 – June 2010
Dalliam Renewable Energy Solutions- Solar thermal installer (self-employed)

On a part time basis I was involved with the installations of solar thermal systems and all roof works to existing and new build properties across the north-west. Due to Bill (Director of Dalliam) not been able to keep my work diary full, he introduced to a friend of his, the Director of Eco-Environments ltd and recommended my services. The outcome was that I was able to fill my work diary by working between the two companies on a self-employed basics.

2007 – September 2009
JDK Roofing and Forest – Roofer (self-employed)

On a self-employed basis I dealt with all roofing works from re-roofs to repairs on domestic (social, private and new build), commercial and new-build properties throughout the North-West area. I have sound knowledge of tiled, slate & flat roof works. I also gained the experience in running a full project cycle by procuring materials, issuing work to colleagues, dealing with any site or customer issues, to handing the completed project over. Also, I was involved in the first solar PV installations Forrest had undertaken, which was a success and gained the company the required accreditations.

Due to the recession, the workload was minimal and didn’t cover my day to day expenses. To try to keep my workload full, I e-mailed several renewable energy companies my CV and covering letter, this lead me to successfully meeting new points of contact for work.

2004 – 2007
Hanover – Roofer (employed Team Leader)

All general roofing work including re-roofs, repairs, lead work and re-pointing, fascia & soffits and Velux windows. Good communication/management skills were acquired due to dealing with members of the public and being a team leader. This employment ended due to Hanover Construction going into administration.

1999 – 2004
Butler Roofing – Apprentice Roofer

Working as an apprentice I gained my relevant work experience while training at college. I achieved ‘Apprentice of the Year’ two years in a row due to my hard work and determination to succeed. I also proved myself to the management that I was competent to run my own roofing team.

The roofing work which I gained my experience was mainly re-roofs, repairs and roof-linings to council properties throughout the north-west.
