Project Controls Manager on a £1bn+ ‘Class 1’ Civil Nuclear EPCM Project
This highly complex facility has been designed and constructed to meet the requirements of both the Office of Nuclear Regulation and the Manufacturing and Storage of Explosives Regulations.
Currently managing and leading a team of 15 Project Controls Engineers across the Cost Engineering, Planning, Risk Management and Change Management disciplines.
Guided the project through multiple re-baselines, confidence models, corporate baseline reviews, external audits, customer reviews and sanction runs in a highly stressful, highly political environment.
Developed new month-end, reporting and change processes and provided training to peers.
Established new reporting tools and presentation methods, which have been adopted by other projects within the organisation.
Applied Earned Value Management to a multitude of packages in an industry with limited base knowledge of such techniques.
Helped monitor and control multiple supply chain contracts operating under NEC3, Logic and Framework contracts.
Along with other senior managers form part of the project’s senior leadership team responsible for safely delivering the project and reporting directly to the customer.
Project Planner – HDS-3 Project at Lindsey Oil Refinery (November 2009 – June 2010)
HDS-3 was a £300m project to expand Lindsey’s high-sulphur crude processing capacity. Part of the delivery team which guided the project through the final stages of Construction and into Commissioning. Joining at the later stages of an underperforming project brought with it unique challenges surrounding the relationship with the client and subcontractors. Key highlights and achievements included:
Level 3 schedule analysis on a circa 3,000 activity schedule including what-if programmes, logic analysis, restructuring and weekly forecasting.
Established systems and procedures for monthly and weekly client reports.
Part of the senior management team and responsible for expediting actions and progress.
Project Planner (June 2007 – November 2009)
Maximised potential learning and development opportunities by accepting several planning positions on a variety of projects. Key highlights and achievements included:
Creation of a plan from scratch as the sole planner on a £200m Construction Project. This included hosting interactive planning sessions to evolve the key interaction points between different disciplines and work faces.
Creation of a plan from scratch as the sole planner on a £25m Process Improvement and IT Integration Project. A particular challenge was learning to deal with a variety of personalities from professions outside of Engineering or the usual project delivery world.
The re-writing of a Planning Work Instruction for use by the rest of the planning department.
Development of an Excel based planning tool to convert Primavera schedules into a format that Engineers could edit and format without the assistance of a Primavera planner or licence.

Senior Project Controls Technician
(December 2005 – June 2007)
Deployed on two large projects; the Onshore Gas Development (OGD) III Project in Abu Dhabi [$1.5bn], and The Petrochemicals Industries Company (PIC) Aromatics Project in Kuwait [$2bn]. This project experience combined with significant training from one of the UK’s most well recognised Project Controls organisations provided a broad and comprehensive platform for a career in Project Controls and Project Management.

Utilised on the Azeri Project to manage and develop various Project Controls processes including Monthly Reporting, Site Enquiries and the Change Process. This required quickly learning the resident software and combining with knowledge of Excel to enhance the processes and improve efficiency. It culminated in a high level of accountability across multiple systems.

(July 2001 – August 2002)
Worked as a technician conducting material analysis, marketing, data assessments, report writing and hardness testing across a range of disciplines. It involved several site trips, both in small teams and individually, to various power plants and oil refineries in the UK and abroad, including France, Spain and Saudi Arabia.
