DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY RESPONSE UNIT 1996 – 1999
Following deployment to Rwanda during the 1994 genocide, recognised the serious skills lacuna in the field of communications and IT across the Humanitarian community.
Conceptualised and put forward a proposal for the formation of an Emergency Response Unit that was sanctioned by the Board of Directors at Cable & Wireless.
Formed, led and managed the ERU across worldwide deployments on every continent. Provided rapidly deployable communications solutions and support for NGOs working in challenging, high-risk environments.
Undertook United Nations programmes and government sponsored projects through the Department for International Development.
SENIOR TECHNICAL CONSULTANT 1993 – 1996
Designed and implemented commercial technical communications solutions for numerous blue chip companies, project-managed contracts and provided comprehensive pre and post-sales support.
Negotiated and implemented interconnect agreements with other telecom carriers.
SENIOR TRANSMISSION ENGINEER 1990 – 1993
Configured new customer circuits. Conducted installation, maintenance and testing on a variety of low to higher order multiplex equipment. Specialist in DCME and digital cross connect systems.
Implemented transmission recovery plan in the event of compromise or damage to trans-ocean data cables.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER 1987 – 1990
Worked on the state-of-the-art communications infrastructure project in support of the Improved UK Air Defence Ground Environment project (IUKADGE).
Tasked with commissioning and maintenance of digital switching equipment, national transmission infrastructure and supporting secure voice and data encryption systems.
Designed and implemented local communications ‘fall-back’ plan in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attack.
TACTICAL COMMUNICATIONS WING 1984 – 1987
As part of an elite deployable team, installed, operated and maintained transportable covert radio and satellite tactical communications and information systems supporting UK and NATO humanitarian and military operations worldwide.
Main customers of the Unit were fixed wing aircraft, notably the Harrier and F3 Tornado forces, deployed to OOA airfields or remote field locations. Also supported air to air refuelling, maritime reconnaissance and transport operations.
