The works commenced in August 2012, consisting of bulk earthworks, road formation, sediment ponds, surface and sub-surface drainage, culvert structures, revegetation and all associated works.

2. Dyno Nobel Ammonium Nitrate Chemical Plant, Moranbah, Queensland ($1.2 billion)

The Project Aurora Alliance consists of BGC Contracting Pty Ltd, United Group Limited and Lend Lease, involving the construction of a 330,000 tonnes-a-year fully-integrated ammonium nitrate complex comprising ammonia, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plants and associated infrastructure. I involved in both structural and civil works including steelworks, concrete works, bulk earthworks, drainage and roadwork.

Responsibilities:

In the last four years, my responsibilities for the above roles cover nine areas of engineering functions as described below.

General Administration

• Lead and develop an effective and productive team

• Participate and contribute to teamwork

• Support and actively participate in the delivery of a SHE culture through compliance with policies

• Meet the specific requirements of the company’s business management system, procedures and other relevant codes, standards and specifications

• Prepare daily cost reports for key activities

• Prepare programme status reports incorporating planned hours, actual hours and earned hours

• Prepare internal and external weekly and monthly reports covering dashboard, force report and equipment report

Planning

• Prepare construction programmes with critical path and resources

• Weekly tracking with progress line highlighting which activities are behind or ahead of schedule

• Prepare three week look-ahead schedule

• Prepare cash flow

• Forecast direct cost elements and indirect costs

• Scenario analysis

• Co-ordination of inter-related activities

• Co-ordination of subcontractors

Design and Engineering

• Prepare design calculations, specifications, drawings and other documents

• Participate in design reviews to identify appropriate construction methodology and best practice

• Prepare work procedures / method statements

• Check specifications and drawings and submit Requisition for Information (RFI)

• Keep an accurate RFI register and record close outs promptly

• Check revised drawings for scope changes, identify contract variations and prepare documentation to the client

• Translate drawing ambiguities into sketches to be issued to surveyors, supervisors and subcontractors

• Liaise with the client, consultants and subcontractors on technical matters

• Provide technical advice and assistance

Process Control

• Check the specifications to identify contractual clauses which may conflict with the General or Special Conditions

• Read the specifications and prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and Field Inspection Checklist (FIC)

• Prepare and implement project management plans including project execution plan, quality management plan, mobilisation plan, environmental management plan, safety and health plan, and traffic management plan

Supervision

• Prepare work pack for the supervisors and subcontractors including drawings, sketches, work permits and job hazard analysis (JHA)

• Assist the superintendent and supervisors in site supervision

• Ensure surveyors’ setting out is done timely and survey pick-up is done in accordance with the testing frequency

• Countercheck surveyors’ setting out to avoid error

Estimating / Tendering

• Carry out taking off, prepare estimates and participate in tender reviews

• Manage and price contract variations

Purchasing

• Prepare a procurement and delivery schedule using the construction programme, with emphasis on long lead time items, urgent subcontracts and urgent supply items

• Prepare scoping documentation, seek suppliers and subcontractors, obtain quotations, undertake technical evaluation, and make recommendations for the procurement of materials and services

• Prepare and issue price enquiries

• Assist the project manager to purchase materials and services in accordance with approved procedures

Quality Control

• Implement quality management plan, and sign off ITP and FIC progressively with the client

• Select lots with the superintendent and agree with the client

• Progressively update the lot register

• Supervise and monitor concrete and soil testing

• Raise and resolve non-conformance reports (NCR)

• Progressively updating Manufacturer’s Data Report (MDR) including mix design, material certificates, test reports and survey records

• Complete project close out, handover and as built documentation including redline mark-ups

Document Control

• Send all documents via transmittal and keep an outgoing transmittal register

• Record all incoming correspondence and documents in an incoming transmittal register

• Keep copies of all related correspondence on the general correspondence file, the variation file and the EOT file

• Keep the site construction drawings up to date with the latest revisions

• Distribute revised drawings promptly to all affected subcontractors via transmittal

• Keep superseded drawings for record purposes and for variation purposes

• Ensure that codes, standards and specifications are current and relevant
