Diagnose, Inspect, maintain, repair the companies varied fleet of HGV (Scania, Volvo, Mercedes, MAN, Renault etc. of hook loaders, tractor units, trailers to VOSA standards, and various plant equipment and demolition machines (dumpers, shovels, excavators etc). carry out welding and fabrication work when required. Manage the daily running of the workshop including managing jobcards, updating computer database, ordering spares and controlling stock of spares. Attend breakdowns UK wide.
Sep 2011 to 6-8-2012 Workshop foreman / Fitter Drilcorp Ltd.
Maintain all of the company’s fleet of track mounted drilling rigs, various plant equipments (including bespoke designed track mounted, all terrain compressor units), various pumping equipment, drilling equipment and fleet of vans.
Ensure compliance with all current legislation by following the company’s policies and procedures.
Carry out on site repairs to company equipment UK wide.
Manage the daily running of the workshop including planned maintenance, diagnosis and repairs, manufacturing/welding, tool making, modifications, ordering spare parts and controlled stock holdings in accordance with projected usage.
Responsible for training and mentoring an apprentice engineer.
Keep company equipment availability database up to date.
Key achievement: in the time that I was with the company I had introduced various Lean techniques to the company’s procedures within the daily running of the workshop which in turn led to an increase of equipment availability from 72% to over 90% and also improved efficiency within the company as a whole. I was also responsible for mentoring and training an apprentice fitter.

Sep 08 to Feb 2011 Engineering Supervisor Catterick
Fleet manager of 15 multimillion pound specialised tracked & wheeled repair/recovery vehicles in a sub-section within an organisation in excess of 400 personnel. Line manager to 30+ personnel. Administrator of career planning, professional development and all technical training required by workforce. Reporting to higher management weekly with updated reports and returns on production and maintenance. Updating of an Army wide live computer databases, which reflect the maintenance and repair details of the fleet.
Key achievement: Established a working section within a set deadline after a major move from Germany to England. This was instrumental to the effectiveness of the organisation as our mission is to provide equipment support to the many external customers that fall within the group. This was achieved ahead of schedule and quickly ensured that our unit gained an excellent reputation with our customers achieving an average vehicle availability of 90% over 2 years.
Feb 06 to Sep 08 Army Recruiter Halifax/Huddersfield
Recruitment of potential applicants (target age 16-19) into the army, including carrying out computer based psychometric testing, basic skills initial assessments, fitness assessments, interviewing, professional development events, using IT equipment and keeping a database updated. Carrying out presentations in schools, colleges and local public events such as county shows and employment conventions. Working in close relation with outside agencies such as connexions, recruiting centres. Taught college students for 1 year at Huddersfield Technical College in their 1st year of C+G studies for vehicle mechanic.
Key achievement: Moved into and set up new premises within a 2 week timeframe and in the same year increased recruiting figures by over 120% as part of a 3 man team.
1998 – 2006 Team Leader Bosnia, Germany, Kenya and Middle East
Worked for six months as workshop foreman in Kenya & Bosnia with a workforce of 30 and 40 local employees in my immediate team, directly responsible for their leadership and management. Overcoming language barriers whilst liaising with local foreman and communicating with local agencies in order to meet deadlines and set up new repair contracts. 9 months on operations in Middle East working in extreme conditions 2003/04. Including attending monthly meetings with higher management, carrying out risk assessments, inspection of local PPE (personal protective equipment), maintaining local COSHH materials and a register. Monitoring, and in house training of junior tradesman. Accountable to the senior management for the maintenance, diagnostic testing and repair of up to 30 + specialist repair vehicles and updating a live computer vehicle database.
Key achievement: Soon after a new equipment was received into theatre it was soon realised that the was no facility to carry out brake testing and so I had to use my trade knowledge, language skills, negotiating and interviewing skills in order to set up a new contract with a local garage in Banja Luka (Bosnia). This needed to be done within a set timeline in order to facilitate break testing of the equipment, which was due in 2 months and would have otherwise made this equipment useless.
