In my current role I am responsible for the external construction groundwork’s team, within the Midlands region, primarily for our local Council contracts.

I manage a complete site team where I am responsible for their health, safety and well being whilst on site, as well as focusing on the responsibilities we hold to the general public on the Council contracts. I am responsible for quality checking and ensuring the work is completed to the client’s specification. My duties include liaising with the client during regular progress meetings to ensure a smooth handover on completion of works in the contracted timescale.

I was hands-on during my manager role assisting the site team to carry out resurfacing highways and footways, kerb laying, installation of traffic and street lighting bases and other general ground work responsibilities.

October 2001 – April 2012                                     Roadtech Cutting Services

Slot cutter / Civil Engineer/

Electrical Maintenance

Whilst at Roadtech Cutting Service I was responsible for the maintenance and installation of road traffic sensors and signals on urban highways and motorways across the UK, along with construction sites.

I managed a two man team and was responsible for the health, safety and well being whilst on site. Within the team I was the primary user of the floor saw cutting slots in concrete and asphalt, along with core drilling too both at depths of in between 50mm and 300mm, I also had sole responsibility of testing and re-jointing the new loop cables to feeder cables, cable testing, wiring push button controllers and signal heads on new installs, along with responsibility of all testing, identification of faults and ensuring work was completed satisfactorily to rectify any problems.

I also had a role of new install of traffic signals along with electrical maintenance, this involved wiring in new controllers, push buttons, traffic signal heads using transformers,

I also had to maintain the traffic lights finding electrical faults whether it be in the controller or out on the street, I have experience with low voltage and extra low voltage electricity cable. With maintenance I was on call.

Due to contracts being nationwide this often meant working through the night when the highways are less busy, and a certain amount of time staying away, often for a week at a time.

I also had full responsibility for all administration tasks, and ensure that there is a clear audit trail of paperwork regarding testing on all works, including signing them off on completion

February 2001 – September 2001                       Crown Cutting Services

Civil Engineer

 Whilst at Crown Cutting Services I worked as part of a 2 man team that was managed by a team leader. My role consisted of carrying out various slot cutting duties as instructed. I worked within a team to ensure that the loop was installed correctly, ensure that all work carried out to a high specification and that all safety procedures were followed

 I worked for J Smith Haulage for a short period of time, driving Class 1 vehicles for this national delivery company, this would include ensuring that delivery was within a specified timeline, this would encompass flexibility to working hours, whilst ensuring that driving laws were always adhered to.

January 1999 – August 1999                                DFDS Transport

This was a temporary contract, and included driving Class 2 vehicles making local deliveries, in a designated geographical area to a number of established customer bases. I liaised with the customers ensuring the deliveries arrived in good order and were signed off in accordance with local protocols.

Whilst working for Hopkins Transport my main duties were ensuring various goods were delivered in a timely manner as agreed with the central office, this would include planning routes to avoid as many delays as possible, and completing the relevant paperwork on delivery.

January 1997 – August 1997                                Driving Agency

Whilst working for the agency my main duties were driving 7 ½ Tonne Lorries carrying various goods, nationwide. I was responsible for my own route planning to ensure where practical, goods were delivered on time. I liaised with customers to guarantee a seamless service so there was no interruption to their frontline delivery of goods; I also had to ensure all paperwork was correctly maintained and produced when necessary

Cash Collector

I worked for RDS for a number of years, and the main aim of my role was to collect cash from the vending machines, replenish stock, and identify and repair electrical faults. I had good relationships with all my customers and enjoyed the interaction with them, and believe that this was also an important part of my role.

I worked, predominately, in the Midlands area, although helped in other areas if a need was identified, I was responsible for the general maintenance of the company vehicle, ensuring it was always kept clean and fit for purpose.

I had to adhere to strict regulations around the collection of cash and the holding of keys, ensuring that procedures were followed precisely to ensure all relevant paperwork gave a coherent audit trail of monies and stock.
