ECMWF is an international organisation sponsored by 34 European states. ECMWF employs a specialized workforce of over 250 staff and hosts one of the biggest supercomputers in the world. It provides Weather Forecasting products to its member states.

Senior System Analyst

My role is within Computing Department of ECMWF as a Senior System Analyst which is equivalent to management grading structure within the organization. My core duties and responsibilities although not in any specific order of importance are outlined below :

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Involved in all aspects of the software development of the user registration system which provides techniques to administer them in different operating systems, ie: Unix, Winodws OS

• Managed HP-UX servers ( servers, storage, switches, controllers) and dealt with day-to-day issues involving hardware and software problems.

• Provided technical expertise to teams in choosing software products for different purposes, ie : Engineering, Accounting

• Technical advisor in the acquirement of the new technologies.

• Managed projects ( as a project leader and as a technical expert)

• Responsible for managing the user registration of 5000 users spreading over 34 european countries.

• Testing software based on specification defined by various groups and reporting back the outcome of the investigation and recommending the solutions.

• Administering Database servers including Microsoft SQL server on Windows platform, Postgresql,Empress & MySQL in Unix platforms.

• Managing software contracts with various manufacturers, negotiating the terms and conditions and the cost.
