I am working as an Inspection engineer and my job responsibilities are:
- Conducting inspection activities of all kind of static equipment such as heat exchangers, fin- fan coolers, pressure vessels, boilers, fired heaters, plant piping, valves and storage tanks on the basis of API, ASME, other relevant codes and standard to ensure there reliable and safe operation.
- Review all equipment histories and determine the probable mode of failures, frequency of inspection and type of inspection required based on Risk Based Inspection (RBI).
- Determine replacement, repair requirements and remaining service life of the equipment and piping based on evaluation of inspection findings and operating condition.
- Prepare inspection schedule for process units, static equipment and piping based on code requirement
- Conducting on stream inspection activities of static equipment and piping based on applicable inspection codes e.g., API 510,570 and 653.
- Determine critical equipment and pipelines and defining type and frequency of test required.
- Inspection and verification of incoming materials, dimensional checks as per applicable standards and codes i.e. ASTM / ANSI / API codes to maintain the quality of purchased materials.
- Thorough knowledge of International codes and standards including API 510, 570, 650, 653, 620, ASME Section V, VIII, IX, ANSI B31.3, 31.4 & 31.8 and others required for the execution of work.
- Keep an integrated check on the corrosion phenomenon, damage mechanisms and rates with process variations as per API 571.
- Maintain the Cathodic protection system on Cross Country Pipelines of Refinery.
- Specifying suitable NDT technique (PT, MT, UT, and RT) based on process streams and equipment for monitoring/ on-stream inspection.
- Specifying and witness pressure tests on equipment after repair and during start-up including hydro test and pneumatic tests.
- Checking condition of safety relief valves (PSV’s) prescribe repair as required, calibration and leak testing as per API 527.
- Ensure welding quality as per ASME Section IX, & API 1104 through implementation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ).
- Develop detailed repair work scopes for equipment (piping / vessels / storage tanks) found in degraded / deteriorated condition according to relevant construction / inspection codes and standards.
- Review equipment inspection reports and observe progress of work on major overhauls to evaluate efficiency and work quality.
- To prepare weekly, monthly, yearly activity reports.
- Comprehensive knowledge of erection drawings, fabrication drawings, isometric, Piping Plan, Piping layout, P&ID and PFD for a continuous process plant
TURNAROUND ACTIVITIES
- Prepare turnaround scope of work for maintenance activities based on on-stream and previous equipment history record and frequency of inspection established.
- Prepare inspection list of plant turnaround activities and attend vessel internal inspection and all plant turnaround inspection activities.
- Maintain inventory of critical inspection items required during turnaround.
- Lead team of contract inspectors during turnaround and other major job.
HSE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring that all maintenance activities are conducted in full compliance with the HSE policy, procedures and Safety Management System (following the Golden Rules for Health and Safety at all times)
- Conducting Safety Talks with labor and contractors.
- Manage implementation and compliance of permit to work system

- API-510 Certified Pressure Vessel Inspector.
- Attended Weekly Fire Drill at PRL Fire Training Ground.
