WORK EXPERIENCE

Honorary Research Assistant, De Montfort University Oct 2013 – Jan 2014

(Faculty of Technology)

 Design enhancements and optimization for obtaining better sensitivity and smoother performance of the previously made laparoscopic surgery simulator prototype.

 Design and development of a prototype of an electronically controlled power lift for NYLACAST® Plastic solutions.

Product Prototype Developer, De Montfort University Oct 2012 – Sep 2013 (Full time Sandwich Work Placement)

 Concieved the design and developed a prototype of an affordable software assisted Surgeon training simulator for laparoscopic surgery with motor assisted Haptic Feedback.

 Research on Haptic devices, sensors and displacement encoders and mechanisms.

 Learnt beginner level OpenGL Game Programming using C/C++ and developed a simple interactive software program for testing the performance of the simulator.

 Hardware-software interfacing and microcontroller programming to record, read and write real-time encoder values of the simulator with the testing software through serial protocol.

Product Prototype Developer, De Montfort University June 2012-Oct 2012

(Part-Time Frontrunners scheme)

 Research on haptics, simulation softwares, existing surgery simulation devices and existing methods of surgery training using simulators, further achieved the opportunity to develop the prototype of an affordable laparoscopic surgery training simulator.

 Development of a working prototype of surgery forceps with haptic feedback using motors and gears.

 Training on writing research proposals and technical papers.
