Work Experience
During my 32 years of service (1977 to 2010) in Pakistan Army I have served in different Command, Staff, instructional and administrative assignments which helped me in gaining wide variety of professional and personal experience. The area of strategic responsibilities during my entire career includes the following:
• Represented Pakistan in the following meetings at United Nations and other related International Organizations of Disarmament at Switzerland, New York and Austria (Viana)
a) Small Arms Restriction Convention
b) Chemical Weapons Convention
c) Anti Personal and Anti Vehicle mine Convention
d) Laws of Armed Conflict (ICRC)
e) Terrorism Convention
f) Biological weapons Convention
• Workforce management, conducting training, operational planning, monitoring, crises management, protocol, organizing mega events and general administration
• Member of the faculty of elite institutions of Pakistan Army like Command and Staff College and Infantry School, Quetta for six years with distinction
• Played leading role in pioneering work of raising the Strategic Plans Division and laid the foundation of Operations and Plans Directorate being the first grade –I General Staff Officer (Plans). I wrote the first paper on the Nuclear Policy of Pakistan and presented it to National Command Authority. The paper became the subsequent deliberations on the subject
• Being part of the Strategic Plans Division (Joint Staff Headquarters) attended a number of meetings on Nuclear and missile programs held at the international level within the country and abroad
• One of my most accomplished and professionally satisfying experience of Army service was to conceptualize and execute a fool proof security of all the strategic nuclear installations of the country through a comprehensive, technologically most modern and all encompassing security organization, as Advisor Security in National Command Authority. I introduced the most modern concept of “Personal Reliability Program” in the strategic organizations for safe handling of highly radioactive and other sensitive materials. The concept was widely appreciated by the strategic organizations, the President of Pakistan and USA and other western countries who were concerned about the security of our strategic installations
• As Advisor Security, National Command Authority organized training of the security personnel within the country and abroad with foreign funding. I also arranged finds from USA to establish an elite and independent training institution for strategic organizations
• As Advisor security, National Command Authority, I was responsible to command and organize intelligence teams all over the country for intelligence and counter intelligence task
• Director General (Security) to the President of Pakistan is the most sensitive, challenging and high profile job of my professional career. Based on my experience of organizing the security of the most sensitive installations, the President of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharrad, selected me as his security chief and assigned me the task of organizing his security, at a time when he was number One on the hit list by Al Qaeda and already survived two attempts on his life. After studying the security concept and system of almost eight countries including USA, Russia, France, UK , India and Bangladesh, I evolved a fool proof security organization for the protection of the President, his family members, his work places and residence, on the most modern line. Through a well organized team I was able to keep the President and his family members safe
• Due to this unique experience of handling this VVIP security, Mr Asif Ali Zardari, after assuming post of the President of Pakistan reposed confidence in my professional abilities and directed me to continue as his security chief. This was befitting recognition of my professional acumen and contribution towards handling a VVIP security
• Overall, I have around twelve years of experience of managing and handling top level security of the country i.e. all nuclear/strategic installations of the country for three years and security of the President of the Pakistan for nine years
• Awarded certificate of merit by the US government on facilitating training activities and organizing seminars on security management.
• Widely travelled abroad with the President of Pakistan as a member of President personal staff/delegation and participated in high level meetings and deliberations.
