Core Objectives

To carry out skilled surveying at specified locations on allocated projects with responsibility for working within the team to provide general survey support at specified sites, performing the tasks to meet targets, set criteria and deadlines.

 

Main Tasks/Duties and Responsibilities  

 

 

Day to day responsibilities at agreed locations

using instruments, take readings to determine specified locations

conduct surveys to obtain data used in planning mining operations

– survey and calculate volume of material deposits, spoil piles, or veins, overburden to be removed

– draft maps, drawings and create a database of survey data including development layouts, production drill mark-ups and miscellaneous layouts

– update relevant maps, drawings and databases with any amended information.

– assist with feasibility assessment, taking into account appropriate criteria

– assist with project proposals, design layout and pick-up of drill/blast and digging areas

– direct and assist team members in use of electronic surveying equipment, systems, or other instruments to transfer surface survey positions and directions to underground areas and to survey designated locations

– compute survey and data, such as volumes of ore/coal driving and connecting underground passages to control direction and extent of mining operation,

– effective communication of plans, providing appropriate instructions to designated team

– assist with projects to ensure smooth operations

– ensure that projects adhere to all aspects of safety issues, including equipment

– contribute towards improving working operations and safety

– assist with assessing and allocation of required supplies

– assist with relevant costing/supply/budgetary reviews

– effectively liaise and communicate and maintain a good relationship with team members,  contractor/suppliers and other stakeholders as required

– subject to specified criteria, general support of all project team members to ensure targets are met

– maintain accurate data/records/documentation

– carry out projects in accordance with contract requirements

– carry out projects within time limits

– ensure compliance with health and safety and all related legal/statutory regulations, policies and procedures, codes,  professional duties, responsibilities and obligations and insert as applicable

– immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the team or the organisation to Line manager

– responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls

– adhere to all organisation policies and procedures

set an example for team members of commitment, knowledge, work ethics and habits and personal character

 

From time to time you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.

You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your Line Manager. You must contribute towards the smooth running of the organisation generally.

Hours

Your usual hours will be from 8am to 4pm. However you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets.

OR

In view of the nature of the job you may be required to perform shift work (such as 12 Hour shifts including days, nights and weekends on a rota basis) and you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets.

Insert following if applicable Your job will involve travel to sites within the agreed area. The agreed area is insert e.g. 20 mile radius, county etc

Equipment

You are responsible for the equipment provided to you for use in your job role. This means you should carry out checks and cleaning as required and agreed.

You must also ensure that equipment is used in accordance with training provided, all of the organisation’s policies and procedures and the law and using, where applicable, any safety equipment or Personal Protective Equipment provided. You are responsible for ensuring that the equipment you use is maintained and can be used/operated at all times.

 

Essential Abilities/ Competencies of this job role

You need

– to have achieved the following qualifications insert as applicable in Underground Mine Surveying with a Metalliferous Mining Operation

– to hold the following insert as applicable e.g. professional body etc

– knowledge of insert as applicable

— experience in this type of job role – insert as applicable e.g.  minimum 2 years

– experience of insert as applicable e.g. cavity monitoring stope surveys using Optech Survey equipment

– requisite knowledge of the machinery, tools, equipment, and materials common to the role

– to demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for this role

– proven skills in insert as applicable e.g. particular software/

– ability in working on mining projects associated relationship management

– proven ability to work as a team member

– demonstrate deadline/time management and task management skills

– high degree of integrity and honesty in all dealings

– excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills

– ability to work under pressure

– full driving licence

You may be expected to work in accordance with the organisation’s overtime policies

The nature of your role will require you to travel within the area that your team covers. However, from time to time you may be expected to travel outside that area as the job role requires.

 

Salary/wages level

C – 45,000 or insert £ per hour
